In The Toilet - November 29,
2001
For this week's devotion I thought we'd do something a
bit different. As you know, I usually take a daily event
or occurrence and try to draw out what God is saying
"between the lines" for you. This week I'm going to share
something that happened to me and let you create your own
applications. This is kind of a do-it-yourself
devotion!
The following event is true and factual (and too
weird for even me to make up!)
Two Sunday's ago after we had finished our morning
concert I was in my dressing room changing. I am so
honored that I have a special reserved dressing room in
every church we go to, although my name is often
misspelled on the door as "MEN". This particular restroom
was fairly small so my clothes and things were taking up
most of the available space. The door opens up and in
pops a fellow with a camera. He explains that it is a new
digital camera he is trying to figure out how to use, so
he stands there aiming at the toilet, pushing buttons and
clicking away. After a few tries he gets the flash to
work and captures a breathtaking portrait of the local
porcelain wildlife. Then he turns to me, proudly displays
his picture of the gleaming white throne and says "here
is the most used and least appreciated room in the
house." With that he turned and walked out the door,
leaving me standing with my mouth and zipper hanging wide
open.
There you have it! I've been around God long enough to
know that anything that strange has to have a deeper
meaning, but I haven't come up with any I can print here.
So now you can give it a try. I'd love to hear the
results, so e-mail them to me. And if you get stuck on
today's topic, don't feel bad. That just means this
devotion won't be as much of an 'Inspiration Station' as
a 'Constipation Station'.
