The Sign - July 31,
2001
This morning on the way to church I noticed a stake
driven in the ground beside the road. On the stake was a
piece of cardboard with a huge "I" painted on it. I
looked a little farther up the road and there was a
second cardboard sign, this time bearing the word "LOVE".
Sure enough, a third sign a few yards down the road
completed the message with a large painted "YOU". I
wondered about the recipient of such an act of devotion.
In my mind I could picture a bright eyed teenage girl
beaming at the message from her admiring boyfriend. How
special to know that someone loves you so much they are
not ashamed to proclaim it to the world.
You've had that very thing happen to you, whether you
realize it or not. God loved you so much he left you a
sign beside a road - not with cardboard and paint, but
with flesh and blood. The method was different but the
message is exactly the same. Now how does that make you
feel?
