Happy Birthday Jesus -
January 9, 2001
This past Christmas we spent a lot of time making sure
Kayla, our 5-year-old, knew the true meaning of the
holiday and not just the material side. We must have made
an impact because to this day, Kayla mentions it in her
prayers. Somewhere between the 'thanks yous' and 'please
heals' Kayla has added, "I hope you had a good Christmas
and a happy birthday." It always brings a smile to my
face, for even though she can't yet grasp all the
ramifications of the incarnation or resurrection, she
knows without a doubt that God is real and He's her
friend.
How's your prayer life? When you talk to God does it
sound like you're addressing a foreign dignitary or
chatting with an old friend? Do you pray what's on your
heart or just repeat some words you learned long ago in
church? Have you ever said, "God, I hope you had a good
birthday?"
God deserves all the honor and respect we can give,
but I think He likes it best when we cut the formalities
and share a heart to heart moment. I know there is
nothing that makes me feel quite as good as hearing "I
love you, Daddy!" Remember, God is a daddy too ... He's
yours.
(I kept this one short so you can spend some quality
time talking to the One who always loves to hear from
you.)
